Sample Farm Nutrient Bank

Sample Farm Nutrient Bank is 97.07 acres located in Russell County, Virginia within the Upper Clinch River Watershed. Historically, the site utilized as a beef farm, with livestock grazing. Sample Farm Mitigation Bank was approved by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in May of 2023. The Bank is anticipated to generate 402.43 pounds of nitrogen, 51.46 pounds of phosphorus, and 1,838 pounds of sediment credits. The nutrient reduction implementation plan includes promotion of silvicultural practices which will increase the biodiversity of wildlife found upon the property and will concurrently result in on the ground nutrient reductions.

Sample Farm Nutrient Bank has been approved to generate credits for compensation of nutrient and sediment load reductions within the Powell River (HUC 06010206) and Upper Clinch (HUC 06010205) Watersheds. The bank’s service area covers all of Lee County and portions of Russell, Tazewell, Scott, and Wise Counties.
