The Ancient Islands Conservation Bank—also known as the Backbone Conservation Bank (BCB)—is a 212-acre site located in Polk County within the Lake Wales Ridge Basin. Approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services in June 2017, this Conservation Bank provides conservation credits to offset impacts to the habitat of the federally-listed Florida Sand Skink and Blue Tailed Mole Skink for projects within portions of Highlands, Lake, Orange, Osceola and Polk Counties.
