Whistle Stop Stream Mitigation Bank is a 32.10-acre site located within the floodplain of Jim Creek in the Lower Des Moines Service Area in Dallas County, Iowa. Whistle Stop Stream Mitigation Bank was approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District in August 2024 for a potential of 55,255.62 stream credits. The mitigation plan includes remaindering the channel and reconnecting the floodplain which will improve water quality and decrease sedimentation. The Mitigation Bank will also remove invasive species and increase native habitat percent cover as well as diversity. Improvements to the Riparian buffer will provide native species richness compared to invasive species. Planting diverse native species will improve habitat and foraging opportunities for wildlife and attract pollinators. Stream improvements will also create riffle/run/pool/glide habitat complexes within the channel.
Whistle Stop Stream MB is approved to offset wetland and stream impacts within the (HUC) 07100008 – Lake Red Rock Watershed.
