Overview:

Shepgarten Wetland Mitigation Bank is a 78.82-acre site located along Shoal Creek in the Lower Kaskaskia Watershed in Clinton County, Illinois. The bank site will benefit the watershed as agricultural and highway runoff will be filtered as it flows across the Bank site. Occasional floodwaters from Shoal Creek will be filtered in the established wetlands, which will also store flood waters and provide substantial wildlife benefits. Shepgarten Wetland Mitigation Bank was approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District in December 2022 for a potential of 70.68 wetland credits. The mitigation plan includes the restoration and enhancement of forested and emergent wetland habitats along Shoal Creek.

Shepgarten Wetland MB is approved to offset wetland impacts within the Lower Kaskaskia (HUC 07140204) and Shoal (HUC 07140203) watersheds, which includes portions of Bond, Clinton, Madison, St. Clair, Tama, Macoupin, Washington, Randolph, Monroe, Montgomery, Perry, and Wright Counties.
